I brew this recipe as a parti-gyle brew (the original recipe had 19# of base malt instead of 25#). You will use only the first runnings for the main beer (you can do a small sparge if you come up short). Then for the second beer you will just do a big sparge to get enough runnings for a second boil. It ends up about 1.040-1.045 for me. You can make up your own hop schedule for the second beer. I usually hop it a bit less and experiment with it, using chocolate or some other fun addition.

I am considering removing the lemon zest from this recipe, both for head rentention issues and to reduce the lemon character.

Perfect for the holidays, this beer is sweet and comforting. The vanilla and caramel flavors come together to make an aroma that reminds me of cotton candy.

Bender's Best Bitter
Despite the name, this beer should not be bitter at all. A rich maltiness is offset by Fuggles hops without being overly hoppy. This beer is easy to drink and one of my all-time favorite recipes.
